Threats, stalking or violence
ETH Zurich does not tolerate threats, stalking or violence in the university community. All members of ETH Zurich should feel safe and have the right to work and study in an atmosphere free of violence.
Stalking is the deliberate and repeated (persistent) pursuit or harassment of a person over a prolonged period. Such behaviour makes you feel physically or emotionally threatened, directly or even indirectly.
Threats, stalking and violence will result in disciplinary measures or formal action being taken under employment regulations.
Do you feel threatened or have you been the victim of an assault at ETH Zurich? You have the right to protect yourself.
Actions you can take include:
- Seek help.
Contact the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department, to discuss potential measures with a member of the Threat Management team. - Keep a written record of events.
Note down exactly what happened and when, under what circumstances, and who may have witnessed it, and use this as a basis for your discussion with a member of the Threat Management team. - Inform your manager.
Speak to your supervisor so they are aware of the situation and can support you.
The university – including all managers and tutors – have a duty to ensure a safe working and learning environment, based on trust and mutual respect.
Actions you can take include:
- Seek help.
Contact the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department, to discuss potential measures with the Threat Management team.
- Don’t look the other way!
Take all indications of problematic situations seriously, before they escalate. Gather all the facts about the situation as a basis for discussion with a member of the Threat Management team. - Provide information to those affected.
Inform those affected that you have requested support from the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department.
At ETH Zurich we look out for each other. All members of our community should take responsibility for themselves and for others.
- Inform your manager.
Report what you have seen to your supervisor or your HR Partner.
- Arrange help.
Advise anyone affected by threats or violence to contact the Safety, Security, Health and Environment department to receive the necessary support.
